Dallas is one of the most important World Cup 2026 bases, but the match-day geography can confuse first-time visitors. The stadium is in Arlington, the Fan Festival is at Fair Park in Dallas, and the region spreads across Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, DFW Airport, and several transit systems.

Quick answer

Stay in Dallas if you want restaurants, nightlife, the FIFA Fan Festival at Fair Park, and easier city time. Stay in Fort Worth if you are building a Texas trip around Stockyards-style sightseeing or western culture. Stay near Arlington only if the match is the main purpose and you accept fewer transit-friendly options.

Official Dallas World Cup transport guidance points fans toward public transportation, the GoPass app, Trinity Railway Express, and match-day charter buses from Centreport/DFW Airport Station to Dallas Stadium. The guidance also says the charter bus service requires a valid match ticket and that there is no game-day parking at Centreport Station.

Best bases for fans

Downtown Dallas works well if you want easier access to restaurants, museums, DART rail, and Fair Park. It is usually the simplest base for a fan who wants more than one event, not just the stadium.

Fort Worth can work if your trip includes the Stockyards, museums, or a slower Texas itinerary. It is not automatically worse than Dallas for match day because the official rail plan also references downtown Fort Worth access through the regional network.

Arlington can reduce the map distance to the stadium, but do not assume it solves transportation. Check whether your hotel has a practical match-day shuttle, whether walking routes are allowed, and how you will leave after the match.

Airport-area hotels near DFW can be useful for short stays, but they can feel isolated if you want restaurants, nightlife, and Fan Festival access.

Getting to the stadium

Official local guidance describes using TRE rail from downtown Dallas or downtown Fort Worth to Centreport/DFW Airport Station, then transferring to complimentary charter buses for ticket holders. The buses take fans to a bus hub north of Dallas Stadium, followed by a walk to the stadium.

That means the important question is not just "how far is my hotel from AT&T Stadium?" It is "how do I reach the official match-day transfer point, and how do I get back after the match?"

Download and test the GoPass app before match day if you plan to use regional transit. Do not leave app setup, payment method, or route planning for the stadium queue.

Fan Festival and non-match days

The official FIFA Fan Festival Dallas is at Fair Park, a different area from the stadium. If you want to watch matches without stadium tickets, or you want a central fan atmosphere between match days, Dallas makes more sense than an Arlington-only stay.

Fair Park access also changes the hotel decision. A hotel that is convenient for the stadium may be awkward for the Fan Festival, and the reverse can also be true.

What to avoid

Avoid booking Arlington only because the stadium looks close on the map. Stadium districts in the U.S. often have highways, event perimeters, rideshare controls, and long post-match waits.

Avoid assuming Dallas and Fort Worth are the same base. They are connected, but they create different daily rhythms.

Match-day checklist

Before leaving the hotel, confirm:

  • the official route for your match date
  • whether you are using TRE, charter bus, hotel shuttle, rideshare, or parking
  • that your match ticket is valid for any required stadium transfer
  • your return route after the match
  • stadium bag rules and heat protection
  • a meeting point if your group separates

Simple decision rule

Choose Dallas for the full fan trip, Fort Worth for a Texas add-on, and Arlington only when you have verified the exact match-day movement. In Dallas, the transfer plan matters more than the map distance.
