Ten days in Morocco is enough for a strong first route, but not enough for every city, desert camp, beach town, and mountain stop. The best itinerary chooses a clear shape instead of crossing the country repeatedly.

Quick answer

For a first trip, choose either a classic cities route or a Marrakech-plus-coast/desert route. Do not try to do Marrakech, Fes, Chefchaouen, Sahara dunes, Essaouira, and the Atlas all deeply in ten days.

Option 1: Classic cities route

A city-focused route can start in Casablanca or Marrakech, then continue through Marrakech, Fes, Chefchaouen, and Tangier or Casablanca depending on flights. This works best if you like medinas, trains, history, and compact city stays.

Trains are useful between major cities, while Chefchaouen usually requires bus or road transport.

Option 2: Marrakech, Essaouira, and desert decision

If Marrakech is the anchor, spend a few nights there, add Essaouira for the coast, then decide whether a desert-style trip is worth the travel time. True Sahara routes take time, and many short trips involve long driving days.

For some travelers, the better ten-day route is Marrakech, Essaouira, Atlas foothills, and one extra city rather than a rushed desert loop.

What to skip

Skip anything that turns the itinerary into one-night stops with long transfers every day. Morocco rewards slower arrivals, especially in medinas where finding the accommodation can take time.

Simple decision rule

Choose north-and-cities or Marrakech-and-south. A focused Morocco route feels much better than a map full of distant pins.
